Selina Sultana is currently serving as an Instructor (Fish Processing) in the Department of Marine Fisheries at the Marine Fisheries Academy and has been associated with the institution since 1995. Currently, She is pursuing Ph.D. degree in the Department of Fisheries at the University of Chittagong, where she was admitted on 23 July 2025. Her doctoral research focuses on “Ecological Health Risk from Heavy Metal Exposure of the Biota from the Karnaphuli Estuary, Bangladesh.” She obtained her M.Phil. degree in Marine Science from the University of Chittagong in 2023. Her research focused on Role of Women in Small Scale Coastal Fisheries and Fish Processing Industries in Bangladesh. Earlier, she completed her Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Marine Science in 1992 from the Faculty of Marine Science, followed by a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Marine Science in 1995 from the same university.

Following her successful academic achievements with a bright result, she joined the Department of Marine Fisheries as a Junior Instructor (Quality Control) in 1995. Over the years, she has developed a strong academic and research profile in the field of marine fisheries and fish processing, with several publications in internationally reputed scientific journals. Her research interests primarily include the development of value-added fish products; market chain analysis of captured fish species; assessment of by-catch occurrence in fishing vessels; work pattern and fatigue analysis of fishing vessel crew; and evaluation of water quality parameters and their impacts on marine life in the major fishing grounds; assessment of biodiversity in the fishing grounds of the Bay of Bengal (BoB); and evaluation of the environmental impacts associated with fish harvesting activities.
