The Nautical Department of Marine Fisheries Academy is committed to navigating excellence and leading with integrity by preparing highly competent Deck and Navigation Officers for service on international merchant ships. Through internationally recognized maritime education, hands-on practical training, and leadership development, the department equips cadets with the knowledge, professional skills, ethical values, and decision-making abilities required to ensure safe, efficient, environmentally sustainable, and STCW-compliant ship operations in the global maritime industry.

Key Features of the Nautical Department

1. Provides professional education and training exclusively for Deck and Navigation Officers serving on international trading ships.

2. Conducts academic programs under the affiliation of Bangladesh Maritime University (BMU).

3. Operates in full compliance with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) conventions and the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers (STCW), 1978 as amended.

4. Maintains regular quality assurance and regulatory oversight by the Department of Shipping, Government of Bangladesh (National Maritime Administration).

5. Develops competent deck cadets with a clear career pathway from Officer of the Watch (OOW) to Master (Captain).

6. Provides integrated education through classroom instruction, laboratory work, bridge simulator training, practical seamanship, and onboard sea training.

7. Develops professional competencies in:

   1. Safe navigation and voyage planning

   2. Ship stability and trim

   3. Cargo handling and stowage

   4. Collision prevention (COLREGs)

   5. Bridge Resource Management (BRM)

   6. Ship handling and maneuvering

   7. Maritime communication (GMDSS)

   8. Meteorology and oceanography

   9. Marine safety and security

   10. Emergency preparedness and response

   11. Search and Rescue (SAR)

8. Emphasizes compliance with international maritime conventions, including:

   1. SOLAS

   2. MARPOL

   3. COLREG

   4. STCW

   5. Load Line Convention

   6. ISM Code

   7. ISPS Code

9. Promotes environmentally responsible ship operations by educating cadets on:

   1. Marine pollution prevention

   2. Ballast water management

   3. Waste management

   4. Energy efficiency

   5. Protection of marine ecosystems

10. Provides education on Maritime Law, UNCLOS 1982, ocean governance, maritime jurisdiction, and sustainable utilization of marine resources.

11. Supports the development of Bangladesh's Blue Economy by producing internationally competent maritime professionals.

12. Develops leadership, teamwork, communication, decision-making, and crisis management skills essential for shipboard operations.

13. Produces officers capable of operating safely in multicultural and technologically advanced maritime environments.
