Department of Marine Fisheries is one of the three departments of the Marine Fisheries Academy, has started its journey through the establishment of the Academy in 1973. The Vision of this department is to offers courses in undergraduate level with the most modern and upgraded knowledge has the mandate to produce qualified manpower in the fisheries sector with proper training in the areas of inland, coastal and marine fisheries regarding harvesting, handling, processing, and manufacturing of fisheries resources as well as fishing vessel operation. The course curriculum of the department of Marine Fisheries has been prepared with a view to making the program relevant to the needs and development of larger society. In particular, the courses will enable graduates from such an academic department to be innovative and more relevant in terms of job creation, with more impact on local, national and global development.

Faculties of this department also engaged with research, consultancy, and other extracurricular activities. The department aims to produce competent fisheries graduates and also develop a center of excellence for education, training, and research in the field of fish and seafood processing, preservation, and its proper distribution, harvested from freshwater, coastal, and marine environments.

This is fully integrated professional course of study for the persons willing to prepare themselves for variety of careers in the fisheries sector. Cadets from this department learn how to maximize the proper and sustainable utilization of marine living resources. Cadets get sufficient practical training at sea going fishing vessels and in various processing industries and aquaculture industries to develop their professional skills.
